12 Jan. 2022: quick study about difference between "sacrifice" and "Qorban"

  • Rom. 12:1-2
  • Deut. 12:10 - 12
  • 1 Cor. 3:16 - 18
  • Deut. 12:13 - 17, 28 - E
  • Is. 1:11 - 17
  • Luke 11:37 - 52
What was the original intent for a sacrifice, (or an offering)?
Primarily. if a person committed something wrong, (not worthy of death!), a sacrifice was required from the offender, so that he/she would understand there was a penalty; by Torah, this penalty had to be pure, perfect, the best of the flock/herd, etc., meaning, "it had to 'cost' something of value, a life, of the best of that person's possessions.
More than that, it was a means to breach the gulf, the wall of separation between a HOLY GOD and one of his children.  The sacrifice was intended to be a means to grant the offender access back into the relationship with their (heavenly) Father.

What Israel did, which gave the pattern for the rest of the world's Christian religions to follow, was to turn that opportunity into a chore, into a checkbox of 'what I must do when I err', ignoring the reason why it was required and what it was supposed to repair.  Along with religion turning GOD into a 'chore-boy', or a 'friend' who doesn't care as long as I 'check the boxes', they have forgotten that GOD sees and knows the deepest thoughts and intents of everyone's heart.

Regardless how many 'boxes' each person 'checks off', there will be millions who, after they have taken their last breath, will hear "Depart from me, I never knew you".
